Current incident on the A14 between junction 1 and the M6 (Catthorpe Interchange)

Drivers are being urged to avoid using the westbound A14 between junction 1 and its meeting with the M6 after a serious incident that occurred at approximately 16.55 this evening.

Northamptonshire Police is leading this incident and they currently have both carriageways blocked while accident investigations are ongoing and an air ambulance attends the scene.

There are currently delays in excess of 30 minutes and Highways Agency is advising motorists to find an alternative routes, particularly those attending the Olympic football event at the City of Coventry Stadium this evening who are travelling on the A14

The Agency is working alongside the Police to help manage traffic at the scene.

The Highways Agency's Regional Control Centre at in Nottingham, as well as the Highways Agency's National Traffic Operations Centre in Birmingham have set electronic signs across the motorway network to warn drivers of the delays

Drivers on the A14 westbound are urged to stay in their vehicles and to heed advice on electronic message boards.

The Highways Agency provides live traffic information via its website www.highways.gov.uk/traffic <http://www.highways.gov.uk/traffic> , local and national radio travel bulletins, electronic road signs and mobile platforms, such as the iPhone. Local Twitter services are also available at @HAtraffic_emids .

Providing they can do so safely, road users can also call the Highways Agency Information Line (0300 123 5000) to keep up to date with road conditions.
